We don’t have much form to go off being the opening weekend of the season, however lets see if we can find some value.
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace
Chelsea are coming off a hugely successful Club World Cup. I expect this to tire them earlier into the season due to the lack of break, however short term it could actually be beneficial as they have some minutes in the legs and some cohesion early doors. I expect Chelsea to improve on last season, however the loss of Levi Colwill to an ACL injury does sting. Crystal Palace are a very good side, however there is a lot up in the air with their side in terms of potential outgoings. Glasner is a top manager, so I expect them to compete regardless. Both times have strong attacks, but can be susceptible at the back.
Suggested Bet: Chelsea win and BTTS @ $3.30
Aston Villa vs Newcastle
Two teams that will expect to compete for European places in the upcoming season. Villa have had a decent pre season, with Watkins looking very good in particular. Newcastle have a lot of off field distractions at the moment, including the Alexander Isak saga. A hard game to call, however both teams are strong going forward. I lean Villa in a tight one.
Suggested Bet: Aston Villa win and BTTS @ $4.25
Tottenham vs Burnley
Thomas Frank is a really good manager, and I expect Spurs to be a different side to what we saw under Big Ange. Burnley had a great defensive record in the Championship, however the Premier League is a huge step up. On top of this, they have also lost James Trafford who was fantastic for them last season. Solanke came off the bench in the Super Cup final recently, so he is expected to feature in some capacity. New signings Palhinha and Kudus are great additions.
Suggested Bet: Spurs -1 @ $2.50
Nottingham Forest vs Brentford
Forest overachieved last year, especially in defence. I expect a correction this season, however they are still a well drilled side and are hard to break down. Brentford have lost Mbeumo, while Wissa is also unavailable as he looks to sort a move away. Goals may be hard to come by for Brentford, especially early on.
Suggested Bet: Forest win to nil @ $4
