Hooker
Sam Verills – 41% ownership
There’s not much on offer at hooker, even in the best of times, and this week is no different. Verills is probably the pick of the bunch that may be available in your league.
A potential Hail Mary option could be Luke Sommerton, filling in for Mitch Kenny at Penrith.
FRF
Stefano Utoikamanu – 54.4% ownership
This might seem like an odd one—who would have thought that big Stefano at Melbourne could be a potential waiver option in Round 6? It looks like he’s been dropped by a few frustrated owners after a slow start to the year, and I know it happened in one of my leagues. If he’s available, jump on him—he’s far too good to be a free agent.
Barring Stefano, FRF is looking pretty grim this week. Just go with AE (auto-emergency) and save yourself the hassle.
2RF
Euan Aitken – 30.7% ownership
Aitken is back from a lengthy injury layoff and has been named at centre for Souths this weekend. He’s always been a reliable SuperCoach option, but don’t expect huge scores over the next month while playing centre, especially with Souths missing a few key players. However, once Souths are at full strength, Aitken should be back on the edge, where he tends to score well. Definitely worth a waiver.
Halfback
Hugo Savala – 2.3% ownership
Savala is really the only viable option at halfback this week if you’re looking to fill the position. It’s a bit of a punt, but word is that Savala kicked goals over Sandon Smith in reserve grade last year. He’s one to keep an eye on, and the dual eligibility here is also handy.
5/8
Blaize Talagi – 41.3% ownership
It looks like many owners have stayed patient with Talagi, but others have dropped him to waivers. He only has the spot for one week with Jack Cole out due to concussion protocols, but take the punt and hope he makes the most of this opportunity. He’s good enough to take advantage of it.
CTW
Grant Anderson – 17.7% ownership
Grant Anderson is a weapon, playing for the best team in the NRL. He still has this spot for a few more weeks, and with a great run of fixtures ahead, he’s definitely worth a waiver pick.
Billy Smith – 9.3% ownership
Looks like Billy Smith has earned back the left centre spot at the Roosters. We all know what this bloke can do when he’s fit. The real question is whether he can stay healthy for an extended period. He deserves some luck.
Also, don’t overlook Savelio Tamale as a punt this weekend if you’re looking for some upside. The Eels are without Zac Lomax due to injury, and the Eels have a poor record in Darwin, so this could turn into a cricket score.
Fullback
Jaylan de Groot – 23.6% ownership
Unfortunately, there’s not much happening on the waiver wire for fullbacks this week. De Groot hasn’t had great scores in his first two weeks taking over from Keano Kini, but he’s about your only option if you’re in need of a fullback this week. Hopefully, he can grab some attacking stats to boost his score.
If you’re lucky enough to have Isaiah Iongi floating in your waiver wire, grab him immediately. He’s owned in 47.9%, so if he’s available, don’t miss out.
