Another great round for our captaincy selections in Round 9 – lets take a look at potential VC & C options for Round 10.
VC Options
Herbie Farnworth – The Englishman is averaging 73.1 across the opening 9 rounds, with a low score of 55. A good coefficient of variance for scoring is usually 20% and something you would typically associate with forwards. Herbie’s is 17% (lower is better) Averaging 39 in pure base, with an appetite for offloading and evasive stats, he only needs 1 try to approach the triple figure mark. To add to this, he has a great fixture against Parramatta who rank in the top 30% for points conceded to CTW.
Dylan Lucas – Averaging 81 and doing so in style. Lucas is putting up elite FRF level of base (58) with some scoring and creative stats sprinkled in too. Added bonus – he is playing against the Titans who conceded the most points to back rowers out of all NRL teams.
Kalyn Ponga – Well, we finally saw some more involvement and some attacking stats from KP. Will this kick start his season as we head towards the origin period, where he likely reclaims his #1 jersey for Queensland. A juicy fixture up against the Titans who have been conceding points for fun awaits, as they rank in the top 40% for points conceded to fullbacks in 2025.
Payne Haas – Safe option. Averaging a huge 59 in pure base, with a further 30 in evasive stats each week, it seems that Payne Haas’ floor is in the 70-90 range also in 2025. Both he & May are wonderful to watch and I am so jealous neither of them play for my beloved Eels. On top of this, Souths concede more points to FRF than any other team in the NRL.
C Options
Ryan Papenhuyzen – Surprisingly, the stats suggest that this isn’t as juicy as a fixture as it once might have been. Only 3 sides in the NRL concede less points to fullbacks than the Tigers, though I am choosing to go against the stats here. Melbourne will be reeling after a narrow loss during magic round and I expect a dominant performance – with Paps heavily involved. Add in the goal kicking to increase his scoring floor and you have a good recipe for a captaincy option!
Terrell May – Safe option. Averaging a mammoth 64 in pure base, with a further 22 in evasive stats each week, it seems that Terrell May’s floor is in the 70-90 range in 2025. Ridiculous numbers.
