Our NRL betting tips for Round 9 cover every game with best bets, totals and predictions across the full weekend schedule.
Bulldogs vs Cowboys – Accor Stadium
Cowboys do seem to have more points in them than the Bulldogs but their defence is still unreliable. Considering the Dogs are struggling for points and Cowboys conceded 34 last week despite winning I think both sides will have more focus on defence this week and the total in the 50s looks a bit high.Â
Suggested Bets: Total Points Under 50.5 @ $1.90 (neds)
Dolphins vs Storm – Suncorp Stadium
Dolphins and Storm battle at Suncorp bidding to stop a run of defeats (4 for Dolphins and 6 for Melbourne). I think the Dolphins form reads well apart from the horror show v Manly. It looks as though Dolphins are closer to a victory than Melbourne, especially with Jahrome Hughes out injured. They should get it done here and inflict a club record 7th straight defeat on the Storm.
Suggested Bet: Dolphins -3.5 @ $1.83 (neds)
Titans vs Raiders – Cbus Super Stadium
Gold Coast appear to be getting Canberra at the best possible time with them missing Hudson Young, Noah Martin, Zac Hosking and now Ethan Strange, whilst Titans welcome back AJ Brimson and Chris Randall. I see this as a game that the market suggests with Gold Coast being clear favourites.
Suggested Bet: Gold Coast Titans H2H / Jojo Fifita ATS @ $3.13 (neds)
Eels vs Warriors – CommBank Stadium
Parramatta v Warriors is one where you would expect Warriors to put the understrength Eels to the sword. However, Parramatta’s performances at home are usually much better than on the road so the Warriors will need to maintain their focus and discipline. The Warriors should win this game but the market suggests this too. It’s difficult to see much value in this one.
Suggested Bet: No bet.
Roosters vs Broncos – Allianz Stadium
The clash between Roosters and Broncos promises to be the match of the round. The Broncos have been producing wins even without their stars but get Walsh and Carrigan back for this one. Meanwhile, the Roosters have been scoring points for fun in recent weeks. However, this will be a much sterner test facing a top defensive unit.
Brisbane have been grinding out a number of close wins lately and I think there won’t be much between these teams but I slightly favour the Broncos.
Suggested Bets: Either Team to win by less than 12.5 @ $1.78 AND Broncos 1-12 $3.50 (neds)
Knights vs Rabbitohs – McDonald Jones Stadium
Tough game to call with so many stars returning for Newcastle. Souths played their best game of the season last week in thrashing Melbourne to break their 28 year hoodu in Melbourne but this could be a trickier game.Â
I worry this could be a let down spot for Souths but I can’t discount their performance last week. It’s hard to split them and I agree with the market here.
Suggested Bet: No bet.
Sharks vs Wests Tigers – Ocean Protect Stadium
Sharks have dropped two in a row and are back at home vs an in form Tigers but with some of their good players missing. However, they are still able to play Turuva at FB and his natural position was always Fullback coming through the grades so I think he’ll be up to it. Koirasau is much harder to replace. Sharks really should take advantage in a must win game for them but this line has moved to -6.5 now and I don’t see value in this. However, while I think Sharks can get back to winning ways they have a big weakness on their right edge in defence with Hiroti and Talakai. Hiroti tends to play much better at centre than wing and Talakai, whilst devastating with ball in hand can struggle defensively at centre. The Cowboys had a lot of joy going down that edge and I think the Tigers left edge attack can take advantage too with Taylan May the man most likely but Samuela Fainu the best value to score.Â
Suggested Bet: Samuela Fainu ATS @ $4.25 (neds)
Panthers vs Sea Eagles – CommBank Stadium
Penrith v Manly is a game that would have seemed easy to call just over a month ago and while I still think Penrith will win I’m not sure they’ll have it all their own way. However, it’s games like this I feel Manly could miss Turbo’s spark. In saying this, the line is too big to side with Penrith.
Suggested Bet: No bet.
