I don’t think we will ever know the true motivation behind the Roosters’ decision to let Terrell May leave in the off-season, and quite frankly, I don’t think the West Tigers care because they have got themselves a gem. Terrell May is exactly what the Tigers have been lacking for years: an elite front-rower playing big minutes and setting the platform and standards in the middle of the field.
Terrell May looked like a ready-made replacement for Jared Waerea-Hargreaves over in Bondi for the 2025 season, yet out of nowhere, they decided to release him from his contract. Before you knew it, he was over at the West Tigers and is already leaving them with egg on their face. May has played 65 minutes in the first two rounds of the year, averaging 180 running metres a game with a tackle efficiency of 98.7%. Throw in the multiple tackle busts and offloads on top. This bloke is a genuine gun.
All clubs that struggle for a few years, sitting at the bottom of the ladder, always need one big signing to be the catalyst for change. A lot of people have Jarome Luai pencilled in to be that guy, but it would not shock me one bit if, in two years, we are saying Terrell May was that signing that changed it all. Hopefully, Laurie Daley is watching closely because May has origin written all over him. With Cameron Murray already ruled out, it opens the door for May to come in and fill that void. Payne Haas and Terrell May up front, that’s a nightmare for Queensland.
