TOP 10 FREE AGENTS ROUND 1
I’ve put together a list of 10 names you might see floating in your free agent lists during your draft competitions this week. A good free agent can set you up for the year, either becoming a keeper or allowing you to sell him off to the unsuspecting bloke in your league for significant overs.
1. Christian Tuipulotu
Was nowhere to be seen in pre-season trials but has emerged for Round 1. Playing outside Holmes, with Gutho predominantly a left-side player, the left edge looked dynamite, albeit in trials. If he’s sitting there in your free agents, I’d be jumping at him.
2. Nat Butcher
Looked almost confirmed to be playing off the bench but has been named at lock. With Spencer Leniu returning in two weeks, there’s an issue with job security; however, with good performances, he can make the spot his own. If you’re lacking at 2RF, the ever-reliable Nat Butcher could be your answer.
3. Thomas Duffy
With the classic hype, the chances of him being a free agent in your league are slim; however, if you are in need of a half or if your halfback is injured/injury-prone, for example, Mitch Moses not being named, you could do much worse than a goal-kicking halfback.
4. Jack Williams
This has come out of nowhere, but Jack Williams has won the edge spot at the Eels. Kelma Tuilagi played on the right side in the trials, which leads me to believe he will be on the left outside Dylan Brown, which is prime real estate. FRF/2RF dual is very handy.
5. Isaiah Iongi
Very similar to Thomas Duffy in that he’s unlikely to be a free agent due to the classic hype; however, with the fullback position being stacked, he may potentially be sitting in your free agents. While you’d hope you’ve landed a gun fullback in your draft, if you’re a Latrell Mitchell owner or even the owner of one of these other gun fullbacks who tends to spend time on the sideline, Isaiah Iongi could be a great plug-and-play for you.
6. Jye Gray
This is specifically for Latrell Mitchell owners: grab this bloke and keep him in your side for the remainder of the year as a handcuff. The kid can play too, which is a handy bonus.
7. Alex Seyfarth
He has won the edge spot at the Tigers. I believe he will be playing on the right side outside Lachlan Galvin, which is very juicy. The Tigers are carrying a hooker as well as Jack Bird, who I believe will spend time in the middle as a ball-playing lock, leaving Seyfarth to play 80 minutes.
8. Alofiana Khan-Pereira
There is no better real estate in SuperCoach than the Titans’ left edge; this bloke scores tries for fun. If you’re lacking in CTW or ever need a plug-and-play, or maybe even need to fluke a 100+ score to win your head-to-head, AKP is a great choice.
9. Kodi Nikorima
The word in preseason was that Jake Averillo would be playing 5/8 as he did to finish the season last year, but Nikorima has been named. He has a very SuperCoach-friendly game as he can create a try with ease. Given that 5/8 is a wasteland, he could fill a void for you if you’re lacking there.
10. Jackson Ford
One player who caught my eye from the weekend being named at FRF is a workhorse who is only an injury or two away from being an 80-minute edge back-rower again. Fifty points a week is all you need at FRF, so if you need that, with the bonus of a handy dual, he can do the job.
