Daine Laurie – 21.5% ownership
Daine Laurie is a certified Supercoach gun whenever he gets a starting role. He averaged 83 in 80-minute games in 2024. With news Dylan Edwards is set to miss a few weeks with injury, he’s the perfect plug-and-play option. He’s a must-have waiver for Dylan Edwards owners as a handcuff.
Mark Nawaqanitawase – 42.7% ownership
Nawaqanitawase has surprised me and well and truly exceeded my expectations as a Supercoach option. It was clear to see he had talent; however, I wasn’t sure it would translate to Supercoach points, especially playing centre in an understrength Roosters side. Averaging 71.5 after two games with solid base/power, I think he only gets better from here.
Tom Starling – 38.9% ownership
Showed glimpses last year when he was given the bulk share of the minutes over a 6-8 game stretch that there was a Supercoach-relevant hooker Ricky Stuart was hiding from us. Maybe the signing of Jayden Brailey has given him a point to prove. Cracking the ton in round 2, as not many hookers can, is a huge bonus to know the upside is there. With not many decent options at the hooker position, he is a great pick-up.
James Schiller – 35% ownership
This is all about the Kalyn Ponga effect. The outside backs at the Newcastle Knights are absolutely thriving, and it’s all thanks to KP. Unfortunately for 99.99% of leagues, Marzhew, Best, Lucas, and Gagai won’t be sitting there in your waiver wire, but this guy might be. Very juicy match-up this weekend against the Titans, who hate defending. I expect a high-scoring and entertaining game, and Schiller could be in for a few meat pies.
Matty Nicholson – 2.1% ownership
Nicholson burst onto the Supercoach radar last week with a double on debut, scoring 98 points. There are a few red flags as he will most likely not play 80 minutes, more than likely continuing around the 65 minutes per game mark like he did on the weekend. He also only scored 46 in base/power, which is slightly lower than what we like. However, with the unfortunate news of Zac Hosking suffering a broken hand and set for an extended stint on the sidelines, there is time for Nicholson to make the position his own.
Watch List
Jake Clifford – 17.5% ownership
A good waiver pick-up if things go his way. If the Cowboys turn it around and he is goal-kicking, he could be very handy given the lack of depth and options in the halfback position.
Euan Aitken – 32.3% ownership
Expected back as early as next week, possible early waiver if you’re lacking at 2RF.
Josh Addo-Carr – 33.8% ownership
Named on the reserves this week for Parramatta. The left edge of Parramatta has been a gold mine in years gone by. However, you’re a braver man than me if you go early on the Fox.
Chanel Harris-Tavita – 26.1% ownership
Has put up good numbers the first two rounds, and with the Warriors’ comprehensive victory on the weekend, it should extend the wait on the possible halves merry-go-round at the Warriors, with Te Maire Martin and Tanah Boyd waiting in the wings. If you’re a disappointed Kaeo Weekes owner like myself, strongly consider it.
