Our NRL betting tips for Round 8 cover every game with best bets, totals and predictions across the full weekend schedule.
Wests Tigers vs Raiders – Leichardt Oval
Market is at -6.5 for this one which seems about right considering Young, Sasagi and Papalii are out for Canberra.
I looked at the tryscorer markets and feel Matt Timoko is overpriced at $3.40 in this one. He has only played 1 match this year but that was last week and he scored. He’s always a handful and this price really does seem too big.
Suggested Bets: Matthew Timoko ATS @ $3.50 (neds)
Cowboys vs Sharks – Queensland Country Bank Stadium
This game is a tough one to pick as Cronulla are coming off a bye but haven’t always fared well off the bye. North QLD were very poor last week v Manly but remain at home and have Taulagi, Mahoney and Nanai back for this game. This looks as good a coin flip as any but it is priced as such. I can’t find value in this one.
Suggested Bet: No bet.
Broncos vs Bulldogs – Suncorp Stadium
This is a fixture the Bulldogs don’t often fare well in but the Broncos do have a lot of players out. In saying that, they did a number on the Tigers with players out and have still named a solid side, particularly in the backline. Dogs have Crichton back but lose Kiraz. It’s hard to be confident being on the Bulldogs here considering they are 4.0 pt favourites on the road. Brisbane were so strong defensively last week while the Bulldogs have struggled for points. I can’t be confident either way with this one given the number of outs for Brisbane and the erratic form of the Dogs in the last fortnight.
Suggested Bet: No bet.
Dragons vs Roosters – Allianz Stadium
This game sees a big line for the Roosters at -17.5. Whether that is enough depends on whether the Roosters have a better start to the match than they had the previous 2 weeks and whether the Dragons with the new coach can find a bit of form. The Roosters could put up a big score in this one but given the potential of the dead cat bounce this match is best left alone from a betting perspective.
Suggested Bet: No bet.
Warriors vs Dolphins – Hnry Stadium
This looks a tricky game for the Phins backing up after a Golden Point heartbreak in difficult conditions in Darwin last week. That coupled with travel to NZ and the fact Warriors remain in NZ after crusing to victory last week mean that the Warriors seemingly have a big advantage here. However, the -7.5 line does suggest this. I think this is just enough to stop me from backing the Warriors handicap. However, there could be some value in the tryscoring markets with Chanel Harris-Tavita at $4.10.Â
He likes taking the line on and has scored 3 tries in his last 4 games in New Zealand. I think he’ll get some opportunities in this game and feel the price is well overs for him to score here in his 100th NRL game.
Suggested Bet: Chanel Harris-Tavita ATS @ $4.10 (neds)
Storm vs Rabbitohs – AAMI Park
This game sees Melbourne trying to avoid 6 losses in succession against a team that has not beaten them in Melbourne in 20 attempts.
Souths still have Jye Gray and David Fifita out which I feel does give the advantage to Melbourne here. Melbourne also have a great record playing in ANZAC day games having won their last nine in succession.
Melbourne still have one of the best spines in the competition and it’s only a matter of time before they get back to winning ways. This seems like a good opportunity to do just that.
Suggested Bet: Storm -3.5 @ 1.85 (neds)
Knights vs Panthers – McDonald Jones Stadium
This game sees Penrith travel from humid conditions in Darwin after a vital Golden point win. McLean is a big in but they will still miss Mitch Kenny at hooker. Newcastle do still have a number of outs and are coming off two 13+ losses in a row.
Part of me expects the Panthers to get back to their strong attacking form here with a big win but another part of me feels that exercising caution is a smarter option considering Penrith played a gruelling Golden Point game in tough conditions last week.
Suggested Bet: No bet.
Sea Eagles vs Eels – 4 Pines Park
This looks like a game where Parramatta might be brought back to earth. They were clearly up for the game vs the Bulldogs last week but it might not be so easy to stay up for a tough trip to Brookvale. Manly are missing Turbo which is a blow and they have tasted 3 defeats at Brookvale so far this season (all under Seibold). However, they will be determined to turn that around here with Foran coaching his first home game and Jake Trbojevic running out for his 100th appearance at 4 Pines Park. Even without Turbo I’m not sure -7.5 is enough.
Suggested Bet: Sea Eagles -7.5 @ $1.90 (neds)
MULTI’S OF THE ROUND
Some value SGM’s this week:
Ethan Strange ATS / Matthew Timoko ATS / Jahream Bula ATS / Wests Tigers H2H @ $37.77 (neds)
Jamayne Isaako ATS / Herbie Farnworth ATS / Chanel Harris-Tavita ATS / Warriors H2H @ $35.96 (neds)
