NRL Round 9 SuperCoach: Buy - Hold - Sell

Round 9 Magic Round is here, so lets take a look at popular buys and sells across the Supercoach landscape.

BUY:

Scott Drinkwater – If you haven’t already, get him in your side. In rare hot form, including scoring 132 over the weekend with a plethora of attacking stats. Doesn’t play the round 12 bye, but after then, shouldn’t miss another game all year. He’s still reasonably priced at $750K, but you need to pull the trigger this week or next with a BE of 30.

Beau Fermor – Looks great when Des actually puts him on the edge. Has dual 2RF/CTW coverage, and is a great POD option at only 4% ownership. Is reliable, and set to make decent cash over the next few weeks.

Nicho Hynes – Not a must by any means, and he’s not the Nicho we’ve come to know over the past few years, but he’ still managing to average 68 points per game. He put up 78 against the Tigers, and could’ve cracked 100 if a couple of plays went his way. At $618K, think he’s a decent HFB option and covers the first two major bye rounds – especially with Cleary and Moses likely on Origin duties.

There are a couple of popular buys this week but am not overly keen on them. Robert Derby is set to make a bit of cash over the next few weeks, but has plenty of low scores in him – so might not eventuate to what you’re hoping for. If you’re after quick cash, then pull the pin – but at $360K – he’s not a great price for a ‘cheapie’.

The other is Hugo Savala. Whilst he’s $233K with a BE of -11, he’s a risk being that he lacks attacking flair – and can’t see him putting up many attacking stats. All attack runs through Teddy, Sandon Smith and Watson – so can’t see him making a huge amount of money.

HOLD:

Kalyn Ponga – We said to hold last week, and are sticking with that this week. He’s rock bottom price now, and whilst the Knights attack sucks, he has upcoming games against Souths, Titans and the Eels, and I just think he’s a hold for them. He shouldn’t lose much more cash from here, so if he’s poor in those games, can move him on then.

SELL:

Mawene Hiroti – Did his job whilst Kayal Iro was out, and time to cash out now that Iro has returned from injury. Not only this, but Hiroti injured his knee last week and is a definite SELL.

Thomas Cant – Was a great earn whilst Dylan Lucas was out injured, but moved to the bench last week upon Lucas’s return, and has been dropped from the side altogether for this round.

Thomas Jenkins – Has done his job earning over $200K, but has bottomed out now and likely to lose cash with a BE of 63 in a struggling Penrith side. With a 3RA average of 38, cash in now.

Clint Gutherson – Started the season in serious fashion but has come back down to earth over the past few rounds. With a BE of 129, he is likely to lose cash over the next few weeks, and think there are better FB options in Teddy, Paps, and Drinkwater.
