American golfer Justin Thomas delivered a remarkable moment at the WM Phoenix Open by holing out for an eagle on the 18th hole during his final round. This impressive shot elevated him from 13th place to a tie for sixth, significantly boosting his earnings for the tournament.
Thomas executed a wedge shot from 102 yards on the par-4 18th, landing the ball past the pin and spinning it back into the hole, igniting enthusiastic reactions from the crowd at TPC Scottsdale. This feat increased his prize money by US$138,000, bringing his total to US$333,500 for the week.
The tournament also witnessed Thomas Detry’s first PGA Tour win. The Belgian golfer secured a seven-shot victory with a final round of six-under-par 65, finishing at 24-under for the event. Detry’s performance was highlighted by a near hole-in-one at the iconic par-3 16th stadium hole, where his ball stopped just 16 inches from the cup, ensuring a birdie.
American golfers Michael Kim and Daniel Berger shared second place, while Jordan Spieth and Christiaan Bezuidenhout finished a stroke behind them. Spieth’s round included a remarkable par save from a challenging position, though his three-under-par effort was insufficient to contend for the title.
Australian Min Woo Lee delivered a consistent performance, tying for 12th place at 13-under par, with rounds of 70, 66, 68, and 67.
