Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne is set to make his rugby league comeback in 2025 after signing a one-year contract with the Wentworthville Magpies to play in the Ron Massey Cup. The 36-year-old dual Dally M medallist has already commenced training with his new teammates and is expected to take the field on March 15.
Hayne’s last professional rugby league appearance was in 2018. Following legal challenges, his convictions were overturned, allowing him to resume his playing career. In addition to his on-field role, Hayne will contribute to coaching and mentoring the club’s junior players.
“We are willing to give anyone a second chance so long as they are sincere, and Jarryd has been nothing but sincere and honest about things.”
Wentworthville Magpies junior rugby league president Elias Kassab emphasized the club’s commitment to offering second chances, stating, “We are willing to give anyone a second chance so long as they are sincere, and Jarryd has been nothing but sincere and honest about things.”
The Magpies, historically affiliated with the Parramatta Eels, are the most successful club in the Ron Massey Cup, boasting six premierships. They will commence their season at home against Ryde-Eastwood on March 15 at Ringrose Park, with Hayne anticipated to be part of the lineup.
