1. Ka Ying Rising (7)
Superstar Hong Kong sprinter with the highest ratings since Black Caviar. He’s been the favourite for this race for a long time, and looks to be his race to lose. Runs time every race he steps out, and can run this at a high cruising speed to give them all something to chase. Only thing that can beat him is how he handles the Australian conditions and if he hasn’t quite settled in to be at his best. Also comes here having not raced for 6 weeks.
2. Briasa (10)
Has come back superb this prep and loves this track and distance. Just looking at his two runs this prep though. First up got dominated by Joliestar, and last start probably loses to Jimmystar if that horse drew a better barrier. For that reason, looking elsewhere.
3. Overpass (9)
Love this horse and always gives you a run for your money out in front. Has been set for this race first up which could see a peak performance from him. Just think he’s getting a bit exposed now, and simply out of his pay grade here.
4. Jimmystar (11)
Two runs leading into this look to have this horse primed for this race including running the best last 600m of the day last start. Will certainly be flying home with a huge run. Just think he’s a better 1400m horse, and prefer the other locals here.
5. War Machine (4)
Probably the dark horse of this race with plenty of untapped ability. Maps well, and is tactically versatile. Just not convinced he’s at this level yet, having not beaten much in his career.
6. Mazu (2)
He’s been such a star throughout his career but his best looks well behind him. Does draw well for an on-pace horse, but simply looks to be making up the numbers here.
7. Jedibeel (8)
Similar to Mazu, simply looks to be making up the numbers here. Could arguably be the biggest upset in Aus racing history if he were to win this.
8. Angel Capital (3)
Another dark horse in the race with untapped ability. Presents a quick turn of foot and trained by no better than Chris Waller. But just hasn’t beaten anything in his career to suggest he’s a key player here.
9. Joliestar (5)
Has come back enormous winning dominantly first up in good time. Has been kept fresh for this which is when she races at her best, and maps for a perfect run from barrier 5 with Jmac on. Loves Randwick, is versatile, and think she’s a big chance to win this.
10. Lady Shenandoah (6)
Super talented mare who was luckless first up. Forgiving her run in the Manikato where she was too far back on a night where it was impossible to make ground. She could no doubt surprise here and run a huge race, but not overly convinced that 1200m is her best distance.
11. Magic Time (12)
Love this horse and stable but just another one that looks to be making up the numbers.
12. Tempted (1)
Super excited to see how this horse goes. She was the best 2yo last year, and one of the best 3yo’s this season, and 3yo’s have a great record in this race. Draws perfectly in barrier 1, and will run a huge race with 51kgs on her back. The 1400m back to 1200m isn’t an ideal set up though.
