Huge news dropped today that Wests Tigers and Lachlan Galvin will be parting ways at the end of the 2026 season.
Galvin first announced that he would be knocking back the Tigers $5M offer, just to test himself on the open market, but the Tigers were quick to respond with an announcement that they would now be letting him go at the end of his contract in 2026.
Whilst it’s been good to see Tigers fans lose their minds today, I for one back the decision from the Tigers to show some backbone. Whilst Galvin has every right to test his value on the open market, all signs point to the fact that he doesn’t really want to be there. Only last year we heard rumours that he was speaking to other players he wanted out, and that he didn’t have confidence in Benji’s coaching ability. Who knows if any of that is true, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
It’s a shame that Galvin won’t remain a Tiger too, because I’ve enjoyed watching the Tigers rebuild this year. They’ve recruited well, and are playing well, and all signs are pointing in the right direction. But getting into tedious contract negotiations with players can derail that, especially with ones that have indicated they want out. Best to just rip the band-aid off like they’ve done and double down on their rebuild mission. Sure, they might miss out on a generational talent – but if he doesn’t want to be there – why try and pay overs to keep him there? Paying stupid amounts of money to players is a key thing that has hurt the Tigers in recent years.
I can’t help but think though that the real villain in this is Isaac Moses. The Herald reported Tigers CEO Shane Richardson contacted Moses to arrange a meeting with him earlier today to table the offer, only to be flat out rejected by Moses stating that Galvin would have no interest in anything they put forward. If this is true, no wonder the Tigers said fuck you and I’d be even gladder they did it.
Moses has a track record with the Tigers too. He was instrumental in the exits of James Tedesco and Mitchell Moses, and has a reputation of snaking clubs to get huge deals for his clients. Whilst he does manage to secure good deals, he certainly burns a lot of bridges, and heavy hitters like Nick Politis now refuse to deal with him. And who could blame him.
It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up, there will certainly be plenty of clubs circling. Even more interesting will be the price tag they put on him. But it’s good to see the Tigers stand their ground on this – let’s just hope they don’t put their faith in another Bud Sullivan.

Set to be dropped for round 7!! Big call as they’ve been playing well but looking to the future is the right call I guess
Huge call, but love it from the Tigers!
